We’re Back Again

8 06 2009

After the recent Crisis, the one where we all had helmets on our heads and the internet was turned off; we have had to do some restructuring here at Metahuman Weekly. We are finally ready to bring this blog back, but here are some happenings in different American cities in recent times, starting today with the East Coast:

East Coast

Metropolis

The Big Apricot has had to do without their man of steel as of late. The SupernovaUnited Nations banned Kryptonians from earth, with the exception of Superman, but it looks like Supes has taken the banishment of his people a little personally; he has not been seen in Metropolis and has apparently taken a leave of absence from the Justice League. Will he be back? We certainly hope so.

Metropolis has done without its resident hero before and just like in time past, now other metahumans have taken up the role of Metropolis guardians (No pun intended). The hero known as The Guardian has been leading the science police and there have been reports of other heroes including Black Lightning and Steel protecting Metropolis.

A superhero has been seen in the skies of Metropolis with similar powers to Superman. Last time Superman disappeared the mysterious hero Supernova took to the skies and at first we assumed this new hero was him but recent reports say he is wearing red with a blue cape. Is he Kryptonian? Is this Supernova? Has Superboy returned from the grave? We can only speculate.

Gotham City

Gotham City has been in turmoil since the last Crisis when reports that the mysterious Batman had died. The city went into a panic. One MHW Gotham correspondent said:

“The events here in Gotham shows just how important Metahumans have become in our society. With Gotham’s hero potentially gone, the city has become a living nightmare.”

But Batman’s demise may have been greatly exaggerated as recent reports say that Batman has returned to the streets of Gotham in a flying car. We here at MHW are not sure about the flying car thing, but the bat signal was seen emanating from its spotlight atop the GCPD building. It looks like the Dark Knight has returned.

New York City

The Big Apple is still home to the JSA and the Titans of course. JSA team member Power Girl has recently been spotted working solo in the city as well.

News From El-Paso

29 08 2008

El-Paso, Texas – of all places – has become a hot bed for metahuman activity in recent years, especially since the Blue Beetle has become it’s resident hero. MHW Correspondent, Sergio Hernandez, reports that Blue Beetle stopped two new super-villains; Anubis and Devil Dog, in a public street the other day.

Hernandez failed to report the biggest news from El Paso due to the power outage all over the city. Apparently Blue Beetle caused a power outage by fighting four metahumans at a power plant; this fight resulted in the death of at least one of these metahumans. The question on everyone’s mind is – has Blue Beetle crossed the line? Some are even claiming that the Teen Titan has a vendetta against mexican immigrants. As the case is investigated, MHW will be here to keep you updated.

We’re Back! —- And News From Washington DC

16 08 2008

We here at MHW would like to apologize for the long absense of posting at this blog. There was a shake-up at the company that resulted in the firing of one of the heads of our internet division and a moratorium put on blogging. But thing have worked themselves out and the Metahuman Weekly Blog is back for good!

News from the nation’s capital says Wonder Woman has been spotted near the Washington Monument fighting a giant demon-like creature. Religious groups all over the country are calling this a sign of the apocalypse (Don’t they always!). The peculiar thing about this is eye-witness reports say that Wonder Woman has red eyes and a claw where one of her hands should be. Is this the new look for the amazing amazon? I sure hope not.

News From Keystone

22 05 2008

Our Keystone City correspondent Bob Barka has reported some interesting things going on in Keystone today. Apparently, the Flash’s home base has been rocked with disasters today that resulted in both the JSA Flash and the younger JLA Flash arriving on the scene. A fire, a bank robbery, and the collapse of some city streets engulfed the industrial city and reports are coming in that it may have a metahuman cause as long-time Flash villain, Gorilla Grodd, was spotted in Keystone at the same time.

News From Gotham — The Week of May 11, 2008

Gotham

Metahuman Weekly’s Gotham correspondent Vicki Vale reports a bat-sighting in Gotham this past week. According to Miss Vale, a crazed man calling himself the Green Vulture carjacked a boy and his parents while they were still in the car. The batmobile appeared on the scene where Batman and Robin both apprehended the Green Vulture. A woman by the name of Ida Fenchild said Batman and Robin used the batmobile to stop the carjacked vehicle from colliding with her as she was crossing the street

Those two do a lot for the city,” Miss Fenchild told Miss Vale, “I don’t understand why so many people are afraid of ‘em.”

While no snapshot of the batmobile was taken, reports seem to suggest this is a batmobile not seen by the public before. If anyone has a picture of Batman’s new ride, contact us.

Team Report For May 2008

8 05 2008

Superhero Teams have been around since the since FDR first formed the Justice Society on November 9, 1940. Here at Metahuman Weekly we have been following team memberships since 1999 and starting now we will be doing monthly membership reports of today’s superhero teams.

The Justice League have been the group to find the world’s top-tier superhero team since their original formation in 1984. Although the team has changed over the years, it is the League that usually contains the most famous and greatest of the so-called “super-heroes”.

The Justice League currently has eleven members.

Including JLA Founders:

Batman

Superman

Wonder Woman

Black Canary – Current Chairwoman of the team

The Flash (Rumor has it there has been multiple Flashes over the years, who knows if this is the same one as the JLA Founder)

Returning members but not founders include Hawkgirl, Vixen, Red Tornado, and the African-American Green Lantern.

Also on the team are two newcomers; Black Lightning (who at one time turned down membership in the League), and a new hero by the name of Red Arrow (who seems to be ripping off the more famous Green Arrow if you ask our staff at the magazine)

One theory about this Red Arrow is that he is actually the former Titan Arsenal with a new codename. Could Arsenal have taken a new name now that he has joined the Justice League? Take a look at these pictures and decide for yourself.

The JSA or Justice Society of America is the aforementioned first superhero team of all time. Today they include both original members (who have aged slowly for reasons we will not get into here) and new members. They are the shining examples of true heroes in our world, even the JLA looks up to the JSA.

Original members include the original Green Lantern, Wildcat, Hawkman, and the original Flash. After the old school members are returning members Power Girl (Current Chairwoman of the team), Stargirl, Hourman, Mr. Terrific, Dr. Mid-Nite, and Jakeem Thunder.

The team has since added lots of new members which include a new hero calling herself Lightning, a new Amazing Man, a mysterious older Superman (from the future?), a new Liberty Belle, a new Mister America, Lance, Obsidian, a new Starman, the former Titan Damage, Cyclone, Citizen Steel, a new female Judomaster, a were-cat also calling himself Wildcat, and a mysterious new Sandman.

Pheww….I do believe that is the largest superhero group we have ever covered here at MHW and it is the largest roster the JSA has ever had. Rumors are floating around that the huge roster is causing a problem in the team but we at MHW do not wish to spread rumors. We say the more, the merrier.

Last but far from least is that junior justice league, the Teen Titans themselves. The teenaged team have been a team for years and the newest incarnation seems to have more membership changes then any other modern team. The current team consists of members Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Devil, The Ravager, Blue Beetle, and Miss Martian. Supergirl recently left the team, and rumor has it that it was not under good circumstances. How long will this team last?

Rumors are floating around that the team of young heroes who were brutally attacked by a mysterious enemy were going to be the New Teen Titans East. This group would have included long-time Titan Cyborg, Power Boy, Hawk and Dove, Anima, Little Barda, Lagoon Boy, and Son of Vulcan.

Unfortunately it looks like this team will never get its start. Many of our readers at the magazine have written us letters asking for a report on their conditions. We checked in on this and Cyborg is still in disarray; Anima, Lagoon Boy, and Son of Vulcan are still comatose; Hawk and Dove are in stable condition; Little Barda is in critical condition; and sadly Power Boy lost his life in the attack. All our hopes and prayers at MHW go out to these brave young heroes.

Here at Metahuman Weekly we are constantly receiving tips and information on other teams that may or may not really exist. Since there existence (such as rumored new versions of the Outsiders and Infinity, Inc.) have not been confirmed, we will only be covering the three confirmed superhero teams here. Check back next month to see if there have been any changes in our favorite teams of Metahumans.

Meta News From New York—May 7, 2008

Big Apple

Metahuman Weekly’s New York correspondent, Jane Rodnick, reports that long-time Titans leader (although he is no longer a member of that team) Nightwing was spotted in New York City earlier today apprehending criminals. The pursuit apparently began in an alleyway at 145th Street and Amsterdam Ave where two children spotted the hero as he was being shot at by the criminals. The pursuit ended in a New York subway. Passengers on the subway train say that Nightwing took down the criminals and tied them up before the NYPD could even arrive.

Many would say that Nightwing is in fact, not a metahuman, as no metahuman powers have ever been demonstrated by the hero. But Nightwing does seem to have incredible acrobatic and fighting skills that may in fact be metahuman-based. Any of the so-called “Super-Heroes”, confirmed metahuman or not, will be written about on our new Blog.
